1. Tunneling (the wax does not melt evenly);

2. The wick is constantly buried;

3. The candle burns more on one side than the other;

4. Traces of soot on the container;

5. The fragrance does not diffuse as expected;

Most people readily admit they haven't thought about spark plug maintenance. You just light it, that's all... right?

Well, that can lead to all sorts of little problems. If you've ever cursed while trying to salvage a wick with an old pair of nail clippers or given up on a candle that no longer burns properly, the good news is that if you give it a little care – and it sports the Coreless Cleanburn logo – there's no reason why it shouldn't perform at its best!

1. TRIM THE WRAP

Before lighting your candle, trim the wick to about 10 mm; removing debris allows for even combustion with a stable flame, and limits soot marks and wick "mushroom".

We recommend trimming the wick every four hours of burning. Extinguish the flame and allow the candle to return to room temperature before trimming.

2. STAY CENTERED

Sometimes, the lock needs a little help to stay centered (like all of us, right? 😊).

After blowing out the flame, let the wax cool for a few minutes, then gently recenter the wick.

Keeping the wick straight and centered ensures a more even burn and prevents you from having to dig into the wax next time.

3. TIME IS EVERYTHING

As a general rule, burn your candle for 1 hour per inch (2.5 cm) of diameter, without exceeding 4 consecutive hours.

Beyond that point, carbon accumulates, the wick becomes "mushroom-like", unstable, tilts in the wax, can become buried and cause smoke.

The wax should reach the edges of the container within 30 minutes. If it doesn't, it will never melt evenly, and a layer of unmelted wax will remain, causing the dreaded tunneling.

Wax has a “memory” – if a tunnel forms, it will continue to burn unevenly in the future, wasting wax and shortening the candle’s lifespan.

4. AVOID DRAWALS

Flickering candles are pretty (and they inspired Elton John!), but for safety and proper combustion, avoid drafts.

The wind can cause the flame to flicker, to touch the container or surrounding objects, and the wax will only melt on one side, or may even go out completely.

5. KNOW WHEN TO SAY GOODBYE

Never let your candle burn completely; this can damage the container and, in some cases, cause cracks or bursting.

When the wax reaches about 1 cm from the bottom, it's time to say goodbye.

And of course, never leave a candle unattended, especially with children or animals.

OBVIOUS BUT BORING…
